We are excited to announce the release of the integration between OpenProject and XWiki. Together, both open source solutions provide organizations with an integrated platform for project management and enterprise knowledge management, making it easier to keep work and documentation connected while maintaining full control over your data.
OpenProject 17.6 also introduces several improvements for agile planning with Backlogs, including sprint goals and a new all-sprints overview, as well as the ability to convert meeting agenda items directly into work packages.

We are happy to also share a licensing update: Sprint sharing is now included in the Basic Enterprise plan. Based on your feedback, we have moved this Enterprise add-on from the Corporate plan to the Basic plan, making it available to many more Enterprise customers. Thank you to everyone who shared constructive feedback and helped shape this decision.

Connect project work and documentation with XWiki (Enterprise add-on)
We are proud to introduce the new XWiki integration in OpenProject 17.6. Developed in close collaboration with the XWiki team, this first milestone brings project management and enterprise knowledge management closer together within a sovereign open source ecosystem. For organizations looking to replace proprietary combinations such as Jira and Confluence, OpenProject and XWiki offer a sovereign open source alternative.
A special thank you goes to the entire XWiki team for their collaboration, expertise, and shared commitment to open source software. This integration is the result of many months of joint work and marks an important step in our ongoing partnership. 💙
With OpenProject 17.6, users can link and reference work packages directly on XWiki pages, create and link wiki pages directly from within OpenProject, and track references between both platforms. Let’s take a look at the new capabilities:
Set up a wiki provider
OpenProject 17.6 introduces Wiki providers. Under Administration → Wikis, system administrators can configure external wiki providers such as XWiki. The internal wiki can also be activated in the new wiki administration and used through the new Wiki integrations. Once an XWiki provider has been configured, users can create, link, and reference XWiki pages directly from work packages.
Learn more about the setup in our documentation.

Remarque
Users can use the new Wikis tab in work packages to create or link wiki pages from all configured wiki providers, including the internal wiki. Even if the internal wiki is not activated in the system administration, the Wiki module is still available in projects. We also plan to further improve it in future releases. The XWiki integration is designed for organizations that require advanced wiki and documentation capabilities across teams and projects.
Link XWiki pages directly to work packages
With OpenProject 17.6, work packages include a new Wikis tab where users can create new XWiki pages or link existing ones. Whether it is a requirement specification, process description, or internal guideline, relevant documentation can now be connected directly to the work it supports.
The integration also makes relationships between OpenProject and XWiki visible. Users can see which wiki pages reference a work package and quickly navigate between both platforms. This provides additional context and helps teams understand how project work and documentation are connected.

Create and link XWiki pages in work package descriptions
Users can also create new XWiki pages or link existing ones directly from work package descriptions. This makes it easy to reference relevant documentation without leaving OpenProject and helps teams keep project work and knowledge connected.

New agile planning features for Backlogs
OpenProject 17.6 introduces several improvements for teams using Backlogs. Sprint goals help teams communicate the purpose of a sprint, a new all-sprints overview provides visibility across iterations, and backlog buckets can now be managed directly from work packages and work package tables.
Define sprint goals
You can now add a sprint goal to a sprint. The goal is displayed on the sprint header, helping teams keep the sprint objective visible throughout planning and execution.

Get a complete overview of all sprints
The new All sprints view provides an overview of all sprints in a project, including their status, dates, and assigned work packages.

Manage backlog buckets across OpenProject
Backlog buckets are now available directly in work packages and work package tables. Teams can assign backlog buckets without navigating to the Backlogs module and use them to filter, group, and sort work packages.

Convert meeting agenda items into work packages
OpenProject continues to expand its Meetings module to support the complete meeting lifecycle, from planning and documentation to follow-up actions. Teams can now turn meeting discussions into actionable work without leaving the meeting. Users can convert meeting agenda items directly into work packages, while the newly created work package remains linked to the agenda item, making it easier to track follow-up work after the meeting has ended.
This enhancement is part of the continuous evolution of the Meetings module, following recent additions such as recurring meetings, meeting backlogs, agenda item outcomes, and the ability to move agenda items between meetings.

Other great improvements with OpenProject 17.6
OpenProject 17.6 offers more features and updates. Pour que cet article reste concis, voici un aperçu rapide de quelques améliorations supplémentaires qui méritent d’être soulignées :
Link internal wikis in the new “Wikis” work package tab
The new Wikis tab in work packages is also available for the internal wiki. Users can create new wiki pages or link existing ones directly from a work package, making it easier to connect project work with internal documentation.

Improved support for project-based (semantic) identifiers
OpenProject 17.6 extends support for project-based (semantic) identifiers across exports. Semantic identifiers are now included in Excel and CSV exports, meeting PDF exports, and timesheet PDF exports.
Administrators can also unreserve previously used project-based identifiers and make them available for reuse by other projects.
Configure cost types per project
Administrators can now control which cost types are available within individual projects. Project settings include a new Time and costs section with a dedicated Cost types tab, making it easier to tailor cost tracking to specific project needs.
