OpenProject 12.0: new in-app notifications keep you informed about changes in your projects

Temps de lecture estimé: 5 minutes

We are proud to present to you OpenProject 12.0. This release will change the way you work in OpenProject. We are introducing in-app notifications, which means fewer emails in your inbox. Notifications will now be displayed directly in your OpenProject instance in a new notification center. You can also enable daily email summaries to keep up to date on the latest updates and changes.

Our OpenProject cloud editions will automatically be upgraded today, 15 November 2021.

What is new in OpenProject 12.0?

Introducing in-app notifications

The new in-app notifications help you never miss an important change in your projects again. Now, you receive all important updates directly in the application and don’t get a flood of emails in your inbox anymore. The new bell icon in the header navigation displays the number of unread notifications.

Notification center

The new notification center displays all notifications about changes within your projects. It includes intuitive filter options on the sidebar that let you browse by your involvement in work packages or by project. Clicking on the notification will open the details of a work package in a split view so you can directly edit attributes without losing context. The blue badge indicates the number of unread notifications that concern you within a work package.

Improved notification settings

The improved notification settings now allow you to fine-tune for which actions you will be notified. With 12.0, you can now even add project-specific settings for updates you want to be notified about, which override the default settings.

Email summaries

In addition to the in-app notifications, you can also configure daily email reminders to receive a summary of relevant updates at specific times of your choosing. You may also choose to continue receive individual email alerts for other changes to your projects, like the addition of new members or the creation of new wiki pages.

Improved work packages auto-completer

The work package auto-completer for relations now also shows additional information (project name, status, …). It is now much easier to identify the relevant work package.

Export of the project list

With OpenProject 12.0, it is now possible to export the project list with all project-specific information, including project custom fields. You can choose between the formats XLS and CSV for the export.

Further improvements, changes, and bug fixes

  • Change of roles and permissions settings: more granular rights to edit projects, for example the right to configure the project overview page.
  • Drop official support for PostgreSQL < 13: OpenProject 12.0 will deprecate PostgreSQL versions < 13. This will result in a warning about the necessary migration to inform users trying to upgrade with an older version.

Please see a complete list of all features and bug fixes in our OpenProject 12.0 release notes.
