Connect project management and knowledge management with OpenProject and XWiki

Connect project work in OpenProject with enterprise knowledge in XWiki – and keep tasks, requirements, decisions and documentation linked in one open source workflow.

Project management meets knowledge management

Turn knowledge into actionable work

Connect work packages with requirements, technical documentation, decisions and other relevant knowledge. The OpenProject XWiki integration gives teams direct access to the context they need where work is planned and tracked.

Use OpenProject to plan, manage and track projects while XWiki provides a dedicated environment for structured knowledge management and documentation. Turn knowledge into actionable work, bring relevant project information into XWiki and avoid information silos between both systems.

Enterprise knowledge management with XWiki

For organizations with complex documentation

The XWiki integration is an Enterprise add-on for organizations that manage knowledge across projects, teams and departments. Use XWiki for structured enterprise knowledge such as requirements, technical documentation, processes, guidelines and procedures – and keep it connected to your project work in OpenProject. For project-specific documentation, OpenProject also includes wiki features that are available in all editions.

Connect OpenProject and XWiki

Set up XWiki as your wiki provider

Connect your XWiki instance to OpenProject by adding XWiki as a wiki provider. Once configured, users can connect their OpenProject and XWiki accounts and access XWiki content directly from their project work.

The integration uses a two-way OAuth 2.0 connection between OpenProject and XWiki. Existing XWiki permissions remain in place, so users can only access knowledge they are authorized to view.

See where your project work is referenced

Track references across OpenProject and XWiki

See which XWiki pages reference an OpenProject work package directly in the work package’s Wikis tab. References from XWiki appear automatically, giving teams visibility into where project work is used or discussed in the knowledge base.

This creates traceability between documentation and execution. Teams can understand which requirements, specifications or other knowledge relate to a work package without manually searching XWiki or maintaining backlinks themselves.
