OpenProject 6.0 released

We are proud to announce that OpenProject 6.0 has been released. The release contains several new features and major improvements, especially with regard to usability and accessibility. Inline create and inline edit in the work package page makes it easier for users to quickly create and edit work packages.

Additionally, the release contains several bug fixes.

What is new in OpenProject 6.0?

Rapidly create work packages from the work package table

It is now possible to quickly create a list of tasks directly from the work package table. Rapidly create a list of tasks in your project.

Edit work packages on the fly from the work package table

With OpenProject 6.0 it is possible to use inline editing to swiftly update work packages (such as tasks, features, milestones) directly from the work package table.

It is no longer necessary to open a separate split screen view.

Automatic synchronization between work package split screen and work package table

The work package table automatically reflects changes on the split screen view. When a work package is created, it is immediately shown in the list. Likewise, the split screen directly shows changes in the work package table.

Configuration of visible work package attributes in OpenProject

With OpenProject 6.0 you can configure the attributes shown for each work package type. For instance you can configure tasks to only include information like status and assignee, while milestones and phases show the start and due date.

Extended help menu and onboarding video

The help menu in OpenProject has been extended. As a result, it now includes references to user guides, shortcuts and other relevant information.

Additionally, a First steps video makes it easier for new users to start working with OpenProject.

Numerous usability improvements

OpenProject 6.0 contains many improvements. It is now possible to create work packages from the global work package page and set the project during the creation. In addition attachments (such as images) can be added directly to the description using drag and drop.

Improved design

In addition to many functional improvements, the design of OpenProject has been enhanced as well.

Installation

To use OpenProject 6.0 online, create an instance on OpenProject.org.

Follow the migration guide for the packaged installation or the migration guide for the manual installation to update your OpenProject installation to OpenProject 6.0.

Important information

Please note that the links on the work package table and work package form have been removed in order to facilitate inline editing.

Some information, such as logged time, unit costs or versions cannot be reached from the work package table or form anymore.

To determine the logged time and unit costs navigate to the Cost report. It is now possible to filter for Work packages.
